Packing Pointers
Our packing pointers page is filled with common sense ideas that can help you reduce stress on your moving day and when setting up your new home.
- Pack one room at a time. This will help you when it comes time to unpack.
- Pack a few boxes a day, starting well ahead of the move.
- Mark all boxes, designating room and box number. If you have a lot of boxes, make a box identification log to show the number of boxes packed per room and the total number of cartons packed.
- Notify us of any high value items.
- Be sure to have plenty of “filling” material available.
- Be sure that the bottoms of all cartons are secured and will hold the weight of the contents. Overlooking this step can really cause a time-eating mess and result in damaged items.
- Try not to overload boxes. It is much safer and smarter to add boxes rather than cram your items into fewer boxes.
- Stay away from masking tape if possible. Packing tape or duct tape is better and stronger.
- Pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box and lighter items toward the top. Try to keep a per-box weight of 50 pounds or less; it makes moving a lot easier and more efficient for everyone.
